91. Online

A Chapter by Haley Lynn Thomas

I made friends with a girl I never met
She was a writer just like me

We liked the same books and movies

She shared her stories with me

And made me feel less lonely

Because online I could be whoever I wanted

She didn't know that I was an outcast

I could pretend like everything was alright

I was living my life on that site

Because it was happier than my real life

I gave her advice on how to deal with boys

I wrote her a poem about her crush

And she featured my poetry in her stories

We bonded over heartbreak and vampires

It was as easy as breathing air

Then she shut me out

The only person I had left

I guess she got tired of me, too

In the end all we ever did was fight

But that didn't serve to lessen the blow

I should have known better than to get so involved
But my real life was falling apart

Online was the only place where I found solace

It was the only place where I found a friend

And it was the place that nearly led me to my end

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
This story is about making a friend online and then having that friendship fall apart. It seems wonderful that the other person doesn't know you, and you can be whoever, but that is also the danger of it.
