Miles Between Us

Miles Between Us

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Every time I hear this song

It makes me think of us

It makes me wish I’d never left

Now there are all these miles between us

I miss hanging out at your house

I miss the jokes your mother used to tell

I loved the way you played with my hair

I loved being just blocks away from you

I used to leave my things at your place

Just so I could see you again

I used to secretly love the way

Your mother talked of us getting married

Every time I hear this song

I reminisce about the times we had

But the sound of your voice on the phone wasn’t enough

To keep what we had alive

And now every time I hear this song

It makes me want to cry

It makes me wish I’d stayed right there

In your arms forever

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
I don't have a lot of relationship/dating experience. I'm probably the most naive twenty year old ever when it comes to that depatment. Yet I feel pretty proud of the poems I write about serious, adult relationships. Since I've kind of been running out of inspiration I used this comment on youtube: This song... it literally makes me cry. I interpret the lyrics in my own way and they fit me perfectly. My boyfriend and I had a great relationship. I moved. We tried long distance but it didn't work out. I just can picture our life in flashbacks and how we met and just how his mother would make jokes about us getting married and how I would purposely leave my things at his house so I had an excuse to come back. And now that its over I can only remember it all and just think "what if I stayed?" (it's not my best poem but hey, whatever)
