Best Week of My Life

Best Week of My Life

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Summer at the lake with your family

Promises we swore we’d keep

Keep your arm around me

As I lean into your embrace

Splashing in the crystal waters

Picking berries in the forest

Old home movies at the cabin

Nights around the camp fire

It was the best week of my life

Your family felt like mine

As we chased each other through the forest maze

And I always let you catch me

But promises you didn’t keep

Your family turned their backs on me

Nights snuggling up to you only memories

Of the best week of my life

Haley Lynn Thomas
Not my fav poem I've ever written. When you write poems every day for months at a time sometimes your work starts to go downhill a bit. I exhaust myself!
