Why I Forgave You

Why I Forgave You

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

All these years

I’ve been holding on

To hating you

And all these years

I’ve tried and failed

To understand

I forgave him

A long time ago

But I still have yet to

Forgive you too

For trying to hurt me

How can I forgive you?

Well, I’ll tell you how

Not that you care

Not that you even want it

Regardless, I’ll tell you how

It's not because you deserve it

But because I need it

Don’t you see?

For so long you’ve been

A part of me

And don’t you see?

You brought out

The worst in me

But I’m better now

No thanks to you

But that is why

Because I’m better now

Because I pity you

That is why I forgave you
