If you find this in your mailbox

Then it's because you'll never see me again

I've skipped town and won't return

I just thought you might like to know

You don't have to worry about me anymore

I won't bother you ever again

You can go ahead and breathe a sigh of relief

I promise you I'm long gone

If you find this in your mailbox

Then it's because I can't stand to be anywhere near you

One of us needed to leave and you were here first

So I figured it was only fair that I would be the one to go

You no longer have anyone to fear

I won't be there to tell you I love you anymore

I won't torment you any longer with my broken heart

You can move on with your life

But if you find this in your mailbox

Then it's because I'm sorry I ever fell for you in the first place

Yes, I'm sorry for actually giving a damn about you

Yes, I'm sorry that I wanted to make you happy

Because if you find this in your mailbox

Then I can guarantee you I'm never coming back

You drove me away with your emotionless face

I just thought you might care to know

But then again, you probably don't

Author's Note

Haley Lynn Thomas
I like to think I'm a good person with a good heart, but sometimes there are those people who make me feel like I'm a monster who isn't worthy of being loved. If you read my poem gasoline: expresshttp://www.writerscafe.org/writing/haleylynn22/1062595/
then this is sort of about the same thing. This poem was actually written a while ago while i was reflecting on just how bad this situation made me feel, how much it made me hate myself. I don't hate myself anymore, but sometimes it's hard to forget your past. It's hard to move on and accept yourself again.
