Friends Forever

Friends Forever

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

usually i write poems in one setting, this time it was across several days

"

We swore we'd be friends forever

If only we'd known how long that was

Because forever almost always ends

In “I don't want to see your face ever again”

Thought we had it all figured out

Thought we knew what relationships are all about

Learned out the hard way we were wrong

Lost ourselves somewhere along the way

Stored you away in a compartment

Locked you away in the back of my brain

To a place I rarely revisit

But every now and then you pop up again

When we're children we're more trusting

When we're young we still believe

We somehow think we'll be friends forever

But as we grow older we grow apart

On rainy days and troubled nights

I think back to the afternoons spent at your house

And back to the sleepovers at mine

But all they do is make me miss you that much more

And when I'm writing you come to mind

And when I'm reminiscing tears come to my eyes

It would be so easy to just pick up my damn phone

And punch in your number, but I won't

Every cell in my body aches

And every centimeter of my heart breaks

I really believed we'd be friends forever

But I lost myself somewhere along the way
