All I've Known is How You Made Me FeelA Poem by Haley Lynn ThomasJust because I'm in college now and no longer being bullied by my peers, that doesn't mean I've forgotten all the things they did and said. That sticks with you for a long, long time afterward. In uncomfortable situations I travel back to old days and revert back to old ways
It's easy to forget where I am That there's no threat looming here I've been out for going on two years
No one's going to shove me from behind Or trip me in the halls Or throw pencil shavings at my head
Just to get a reaction out of me Or make up stupid clubs just to exclude me
No one's going to call me those wretched names That still echo through my mind Or again tell me that I'm weak
But even though you're nothing But a reacquiring dream now You're still a part of my skin I can't shed
Everyone says just get over it I wish they'd understand it's not that simple To forget all derogatory things that were said
You don't spend over half you life Being bullied relentlessly Only to come out completely unscathed
I will never be who I was 12 years ago That girl is dead and been replaced But I'm slowly learning to accept the new me
