Picture Perfect

Picture Perfect

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I imagined our lives together

Starting with our first kiss

Underneath the live oak tree

In my front yard

I imagined you asking my daddy

For my hand in marriage

The diamond ring you slipped onto my finger

To signify that I was yours to keep

I imagined me floating down the aisle

On my daddy’s arm

A vision in a white dress

Picture perfect innocence

I imagined carrying your baby boy

Inside of me

And we'd name him after you

Because he'd have your soulful blue eyes

I imagined us growing old together

Celebrating our 50th anniversary

Knowing that we beat the odds

That our love stood the test of time

Still to this day I imagine the life

That you and I could have had

It plays out in my head with picture perfect clarity

I can almost imagine it’s real
