Mine

Mine

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I promised myself I wouldn’t cry

Over something that was never mine

Why is it so sad to say goodbye

When you and I never even said hi?

I swore to myself I wouldn’t be jealous

When I saw you talking to her

I don’t have the right to care who you date

It isn’t right that my heart breaks

I said to myself “you had your chance

But you foolishly let him slip away”

Now it’s too late, she’s come to stake her claim

He’s tattooing her name on his shoulder

Those luscious lips aren’t mine to kiss

His baby blues aren’t mine to miss

It isn't right, but I must confess

The sound of your voice makes me a mess

The way you wear your cap

The way you slick back your hair

The way your mouth moves when you speak

Damn, it's so sexy to me

But I promised myself I wouldn't cry

Even though you're such an amazing guy

I'll look away as you walk by

Because you will never be mine
