Childhood Lost

Childhood Lost

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

So young and innocent

So naive and vulnerable

So open and trusting

So free and unafraid

Scarred beyond recognition

Pureness has been tainted

Hiding in the closet

Immersed in the darkness

Never fully recover

Never forget what he witnessed

While other childre are playing

He's crying in the hall

A gun held to his head

He watched somebody get shot

Can still hear the screams
Bouncing off the walls

Burden he'll carry with him

All throughout his life

No longer as trusting

Now closed off from everyone
