What Happened

First poem in a while

Sometimes I wonder

Late at night

What happened to us?

 

How did we get here?

How did everything turn out so wrong?

Was it me or was it you?

 

I don’t know who to blame

For the way that we are

But I know this isn’t how it’s supposed to be

Sometimes I think about

Back when neither of us could have ever

Imagined things ending this way

 

I retrace my steps

But I can’t find the place

Where it all fell apart

 

I never would have thought

That one day I’d count you as an enemy

Was this our fate from the very beginning?

 

How did we get here?

And how can we get back?

Is it all hopeless?
