This Time Around

This Time Around

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I will call myself a fool

For ever having fallen for you

I thought you were different from the rest

But it turns out I was wrong

Still I’ve never known anyone

Who’s quite as cruel as you

You stabbed me through my already broken heart

But now I’ve put it back together

Even when you hated me I still loved you

I thought I’d never stop caring about you

But now you’ve crossed the line one too many times

And I can finally see your true colors

You were nothing but a waste of my time

But I’m done regretting you

Because I know as long as I do you’re in control

And I refuse to give you that kind of power over me

I used to love and hate you at the same time

I suppose I should thank you for what you did

You’ve made this so much easier

I don’t feel conflicted anymore

I’ve never known anyone

Whose as two faced as you are

You play the part almost too well

But underneath you’re nothing but a liar

I will call myself a fool

For ever having loved you

I thought you were an angel sent to me

But all along you were a demon testing me

Still I’ve never known anyone

Quite as strong as I am

I’m too tough for you to ever hurt me again

Because this time around I win
