MisunderstoodA Poem by Haley Lynn ThomasThere’s a girl in my class She always sits in the far back In the hallway she clings to the wall And let’s other people push her around
She hides in the shadows And eats alone at her own table The other kids point at her and laugh She just wants to be invisible
Rumor claims she’s a witch Who sticks pins in voodoo dolls They say she practices dark magic But I don’t believe that’s true
One day I sat down across from her I offered her a friendly smile I asked her if she’d like some company She smiled back and said yes
It turns out she isn’t what they think She’s actually really sweet She’s just misunderstood and lonely Held back by a petrifying shyness
And do you know she said to me She said “It means a lot that you asked That you looked past all the lies And decided to give me a try”
She said “No one’s ever cared before I was the one they just ignored All I’ve ever wanted was a friend So thank you for taking a chance on me” © 2014 Haley Lynn ThomasReviews
