PrayersA Poem by Haley Lynn ThomasWhen I was little I never had a doubt I never questioned if You existed But as I grew older things took a turn I wondered where You had gone to
I felt all alone in the world And I blasted my music so loud As to drown out my own thoughts Because they took me to unpleasant places
What were You doing then? Sitting on a cloud, watching me suffer? I kept thinking You would intervene Swoop down and save me
Well it took two long years Before You finally answered my prayers You told me You’d always been there You’d never abandoned me as I’d feared
You helped me to stay afloat You kept me from getting carried away The waves made my whole world spin around But You never let me sink
You nudged me in the right direction You promised I’d always have Your protection You gave me the strength to persevere And the courage to stand up for myself
You may have seven billion children But to You I’m still special You’re the one who loves me regardless Who won’t leave me even if I asked You to
You’re the one who never gave up Who still believed that there was hope for me In a time that was dark and desperate You sent me an angel to restore me
Even now I can feel Your influence And sometimes I still question Your actions But part of faith is accepting them And understanding everything has a reason
Life may never be easy for someone like me But You’ll always be there to guide me When I start to stray from Your path I know You’ll reach down and pull me back
Because You see what they don’t To You I’m beautiful and full of potential And even when I let You down You'll never let me go © 2014 Haley Lynn Thomas |
