For My Sister

For My Sister

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Have I ever told you

Just how much you mean to me?

I would do anything for you

Go to any lengths to protect you

You’ve always been the stronger one

The one who I leaned on

But if you ever fall down

I will be there to give you a hand

I’ve long looked up to you

Just look at these old photographs

From the time when you ruled my world

And I wanted to be just like you

I know no matter how big I get

I’ll always be your baby sister

Your embraces are always so tight

Despite my protest I hope you won’t stop

I’ve seen siblings who drift apart

When childhood rivalries turn ugly

I won’t let that happen to us

This bond runs deeper than blood

I don’t think you even know

Just how far I would go for you

I’m so proud to call myself your sister

And I hope you feel the same

I hope I always stay little to you

Even when I’m eighty two

I pray your hugs remain forever this tight

And that you never forget I love you
