Wishing for You

Wishing for You

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

Treasure your friendships.

"

I know how it feels to be abandoned

I know how it feels to be traded away

I swore I’d never do that to another

But I guess I forgot that promise

I chose her over you

I turned my back on what we had

I left you without even a goodbye

Because she was new and enticing

I wanted a taste of the fruit

Once I had one I was hooked

But you and I had something solid

And she and I lived on shaky ground

When it all came tumbling down

I found myself wishing for you

I found myself regretting my choice

Wishing I’d resisted the serpent’s temptation

I tossed you carelessly aside

It came back to me like a boomerang

You know they say karma’s a b***h

Well I learned that the hard way

I plunged my sword through your heart

She twisted the knife in my back

Your friendship was tried and true

She and I weren’t made to last

How could I have done that to you?

In the end we both lose

How can I hate her for what she did to me?

When I did the same to you

I had a taste of the juiciest fruit

Then I watched as it rotted

And in the back of my mind all I could think

Was how I never said I'm sorry to you
