HeroesA Poem by Haley Lynn ThomasWhen people think of heroes They conjure up images of men in capes But the real heroes in this world Are the ones we tend to overlook The ones who are stronger than any Superman
My hero is the little girl Who gets bullied at her school But who goes back every day anyway Who holds in the tears desperate to flow And wears a brave face through the pain
My hero is the man Who’s confined to a wheelchair They say he’ll never walk again But you’ll never hear him complain He makes the most of what he’s given
My hero is the wife and mother Who just received the deadly diagnosis She stares it down with grim determination She says she’s going to fight to the end And through it all she keeps her faith
My hero is the boy Who admits that he made a mistake Who says that he’s sorry Who says that’s he’s changed The one who saw the error of his ways
My hero is the ninety year old man Who risked his life for this country And every man he fought beside All the ones who died for our cause And all the ones who’ve been forgotten
My hero is the child Who’s born into poverty Who dreams of going to college Who wants to be a doctor Who still believes there’s good in this world
My hero is my big sister My hero is my father My hero is my mother My hero is my best friend My hero is the boy who thinks I hate him
When people think of heroes They think of characters from the comics But the real heroes in this world Are the ones who overcome adversity Who rise above and never surrender © 2014 Haley Lynn Thomas |
