SomedayA Poem by Haley Lynn ThomasI’m staring at a picture of a younger me She's clutching her Bunny and smiling Those brown eyes so bright She has no way of knowing
Someday she’ll be kicked down Time and time again But with a little help She’ll bounce back every time
They’ll tell her parents That she’ll never go to college This crippling shyness and anxiety Will prevent her from reaching the stars
Well younger me, hear this now What do they know? Trust me, we’ll beat the odds We’re going to prove them all wrong
Someday you’ll stand in a big room Behind a podium, they’re all looking at you You’ll read the poem you wrote Your voice might shake, but you’ll deliver
Someday you’ll walk across that stage They’ll hand you your diploma That fall you’ll take on college Now you’re at this huge, intimidating campus
Someday you’ll stand behind the counter You’re working your first job Under her watchful eye you come into your own For the first time you feel at home
You’ll do things you never dreamed You’ll face your fears and you’ll conquer them Someday you’ll go back to where you started And you’ll show them your degree I'm staring at a picture of a younger me Wishing I could tell her who we'll be Someday she'll find out for herself That we're about to prove the naysayers wrong © 2014 Haley Lynn Thomas |
