First True Love

First True Love

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

This is a poem about my first true love. If I had to describe this love with two lines it would be It forced me to be braver/It pushed me to be better.

"

I can’t pinpoint the exact day

The first moment I realized we fit

But I can tell you how it felt

The experience of my first trUe love

It felt enticing and exhilarating

Like the wildest ride of my life

It felt terrifying and heart pounding

And it left me breathless

It was like emerging

From a dark, long tunnel

It was like seeing the light

And running towards it full speed

It was like being wrapped up

In the warmth of love’s embrace

It was comfortable

And I knew that I was Home

It was reassuring

It was challenging at times

It forced me to be braver

It pushed me to be better

It was seeing a double rainbow

After weathering a thirteen year storm

It was forgetting all about

The heartaches from my past

It was starting over again

Learning to trust again

It was giving all of myself

And receiving so much in return

I can tell you the exact day

That I had to walk away

And I can tell you how it felt

When we knew it was donE

It felt like losing my other half

A friend I’d never get back

It was a permanent separation

It was the loss of my first true love

I love the journey from start to finish and the feeling within this poem. The similes and metaphors are great, and the lessons you've learned, the growth within yourself and the hard realizations you dealt with were all beautifully put together in this poem and it's great you can express yourself this way. =)

wow, this is pretty nice, I would be in shock that writing can be good like this but I fear I will never be able to do this, which is ok, I keep trying to figure out about trUe love but I don't even know why it's a thing people talk about or not so much to hide feelings...

I cannot tell exact days of anything; but I believe a Hallmark kind of person to be better at it. Why, I suppose if you can never get back a such a one, that is when the spirit questions and becomes sort of confused? Thinking we need one person then watching the world spin out of control donE. What motivates us and here for Haley Lynn Thomas? I hate and love this poem.
