Where I Am

Where I Am

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Sometimes giving up is the hardest thing
Sometimes it nearly kills you
But sometimes you don't have a choice
Sometimes it's beyond your control

The pain comes and goes
You experience the grief in stages
Some days you feel alright
Others like you're falling apart

Slowly you begin to conclude
A once unimaginable truth
Even if it was something you could reclaim
Nothing about it would be the same

Along came the bittersweet revelation
The urge to return is fading
I suppose it's true, what they say
That time has healed these wounds

Giving you up was the hardest thing
And it nearly killed me
But even if going back was a choice
I'd stay right here where I am
