Something I Cannot KeepA Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
Deep at night in my dreams
I can still hear their screams But when I sleep They're something I can keep I can still smell the smoldering ashes Still feel the tears on my eyelashes I can still hear her beseeching me to be brave Even when there was nothing left to save I lost everything that day They stole my innocence away And I tried to make myself whole again But I had no inkling of where to even begin I'd give anything to see them But my memories grow dim Now even in my sleep They're something I cannot keep © 2015 Haley Lynn Thomas |
