Something less Evident..

A short story on looking beyond the looks and what you hear!

"
Everyday I look out my window, it's the same old grass. Looking up, my eyes see the same fitness junkie pacing through the streets. Which is followed by the grumpy businessman reversing his mercedes like there's no tomorrow. But today I saw something different, I saw someone I'd never seen before. She carried herself with such poise and elegance, it almost made me jealous. Mum always forced me to walk with such a posture, but I seemed to slouch and rather be comfortable. Looking up, her hair swished side to side in her effortless ponytail, one that I could never pull off! When did she arrive in our neighbourhood? As I went to get ready for another day of school, I tried to pull the same ponytail she did, yet my hair just reached my shoulders. So I let it flow out in a tomboyish manner like usual and walked out with my washed out jeans and white converse.
Jane was casually eating a lollipop when I got to school as usual. Followed by out fashion shows that consisted of criticising each other's outfits. We made our way into the chilly classroom, due to one of the boy's stupid dares to break the heater. Miss Smith looked tired as usual and wore the same knitted cardigan with red buttons. She was one of the kindest teachers I'd ever had, but age was beginning to define her. The class loud and careless went into a silent scene when a new student walked in. It was her again! Yet this time she seemed more confident and cocky, and ready to show off her flamboyant nature. Jane and I shot each other a look as we examined the new girls' attitude.
"Class this is Annie Winter, and she'll be...", introduced Miss Smith. Until Annie began to do her own introduction. "Hi, I'm Annie and I don't really like this town". Miss Smith gave the coldest stare I'd ever seen, while the rest of us glared in confusion. She had to be the most random girl out! Certainly seeking attention and ready for everyone to fall at her feet. Yet behind her beauty, I saw pain and something less evident, there was more to discover.
