Unknown TerritoryA Poem by New Dawn
It is our last night on the beach
tomorrow
we will pack up and
return to the real world and you, you will head to college, unknown territory. You are pensive as we walk ,
soaking
up the sights and sounds of
this place you love so well, this refuge for weary hearts . We follow the shoreline, barefooted, walking in companionable silence . Until we run out of beach and are forced to turn back . You link your arm in mine . Something you haven't done in a while, and pull me into a brief hug. 'love you mom' you whisper and then you give an embarrassed laugh and turn to run back across the beach kicking up spray and whooping madly as you go. I watch you until you are but a speck lit up by a single strand of sunlight that cuts through the gathering clouds. The first evidence of rain is enough to send me after you, my pace more sedate but my heart whooping just as madly. © 2012 New DawnReviews
