Wanderer

Wanderer

A Poem by Spider Jerusalem

I looked back and forth, back and forth

to find if there was any opera

There was, and the poster said the stage was fascinating

I didn’t buy a ticket

but the doorman let me in anyway

The stage was fascinating

The sadness was on it

shining

flapping her bandaged wings

It made me feel like a coffee stain on your new t-shirt

A palm-sized elephant statue that you bought for nothing

I went out the back door and lit a deathstick

before the sadness pulled me back in and bit my right leg off
