Monsters to Each Other

Monsters to Each Other

A Poem by Spider Jerusalem

We are strangers

and strangers are getting stranger these days

I mean, uh,

go try to take an empty seat beside anybody

I bet you three hundred bucks

they won’t let you

All of a sudden,

a bag

A landmine

A rattlesnake

We act like falsely accused innocents

hiding from the soldiers of justice

Right--

monsters to each other

Our days of sending letters

are already slept in a dirty alley behind us

where the truth ate dinner and took a bullet

Nothing cinematic

Just how the space we live in rolls
