This goes along with my other ode, The Predator. It was another ode that I had to write for a homework assignment, and like the other, I like how it turned out.
The soft
golden glow
in the hearth as
the coals cool down,
lights the room eerily.
Your light captivates me,
making me stare endlessly
into the flame of colors,
red, orange, yellow.
I see haunting figures,
faces that gape
mournfully at me,
only to disappear into ashen flame.
Your light pulses,
like a tiny heartbeat,
fighting to keep strong.
Strong and steady.
We believe that we have
complete control over you,
but you have a mind of your own.
We can’t control you,
in a million years.
You shall forever have an intelligence
of your own to resort to.
Oh my dear fire,
you’re so beautiful,
yet so dangerous,
burning to the touch.
In a single flame,
holds a sunset.
A sunset of warmth,
a sunset of colors,
a sunset of fire.
Don’t let that sunset ever die, ever.
