A Reminder for Myself

 

On days when it’s dark and I feel weak,

My thoughts are provoking, I’m feeling bleak.

I know I‘m consumed by shadows of the past,

Like a chafed wound, the pain lasts.

On those days, I look within for inner wisdom,

A wise voice that sings of freedom.

 

Then I reflect back to see what has past.

A life in limbo without hope to grasp.

I compare the world where I once belonged

To a world now where I've thrived long.

It is then I’m assured of my inner strength.

I've conquered the past, pursued at great lengths.

 

This is my inner voice reminding myself,

Happiness is here despite everything else.

Mistakes are ok, I am not perfect.

I am loved by those who matter to me.

I’m a woman of compassion, strength, integrity.
