I Dream, You Pray

I Dream, You Pray

A Poem by Hunter Hoburg

Water drips down the mirror

Your grainy image reflected just right

The ink curled around your body

The shameless stare, dulled but bright

I know there’s seeds behind those eyes.

All through the night

I’ll watch you pray

In my hand a bottle

In my mind escape

I fell so sick I couldn’t care

Lost my smile, couldn’t find it

Started changing, combed my hair

Four years passed and still I’m blinded

Your praying gone now, I don’t mind it.

All through the night

I dream you pray

In my hand a bottle

In my hand escape

The only time I feel I’m found

Pictures of us two still smiling

I buried them deep in the ground

Somewhere tight; unseen, defiled

And still I know right where they lie.

All through the night

I pray for dreams

In my hand a bottle

In my mouth a scream

All through my life

You prayed, I dreamed

In my hand a bottle

In my heart a seam
