Thorny Road

Thorny Road

A Poem by A.A.Romanczuk

I require not Nepenthe

Nor desire a visit

To the alluring land of the lotus eaters

My own happiness have I sought

Life’s ups and downs

I shall face

If I could have the renowned love of Gods

I would risk their wrath and refuse it

For our love flawed

Is sweeter to me than nectars of ambrosia

Take your Nepenthe

Intoxicate yourself with lotus

Grow into a careless stupor from an overdose

Of ambrosia

I choose the thorny road.

I always admired those who walked their roads, thorny and bumpy
no matter what i would seek nothing to soothe what hurts my feet and my soul
i want no solace from others ,dont want to feel numb,i would like to feel the pain
its love that given me strength ,other than that i dont seek
always felt strong on the inside..always challenged everything
i have a dream,i have faith in goodness..it always lighted my way
nothing going stop me now..i got used to the hurt and pains
i am careless to everything..and strong like i never felt
some strong meanings in all this ,and i just loved it
lovely write..

Walking this thorny road makes us strong and happy. Drugs to erase pain and sadness make our lives dull, without sorrow and joy. I'll take my sorrows and my joys instead! Such beautiful meaningful words.

Yes, I like the message. No Nepenthe or lotus or ambrosia-- a relationship is better or "sweeter" without it. So often intoxicants are romanticized in literature or the art world-- it is refreshing to read a poem with a different message. Oh yes and the final line "I choose the thorny road"-- veeery strong, yes the thorny road is painful without an intoxicant but you learn not to walk in that batch of thorns anymore but the intoxicated person is numb and continues tearing themselves up in a "careless stupor". I really dig this poem.
