Monsters and Ghosts are Real

Monsters and Ghosts are Real

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Monsters and Ghosts are Real

Finally, I fall asleep, but not in sweet slumber.
Softly, and wetly you whisper in my ear.
Monsters are real; you cannot deny them.
I see visions of hideous creatures.
Some arise from the dark cold depths of the waters.
Others emerge from the star-studded black sky above.
They encircle me, getting ever closer.
Their fierce screams try to frighten me.
I smile and open myself and take them unto me.
They are me, and I cannot forsake them.

I toss in my sleep and again; you come to me.
Ghosts are real to you know.
I am surrounded now by wispy vaporous spirits.
Their howls echo endlessly in my bleeding ears.
Some torment me like harpies from hades.
Others appear as angels as if from heaven.
They block my vision ahead, trying to stop me.
I grin and inhale deeply sucking them all into me.
How can I deny that which I have made?

I turn in my sleep, and you are there again.
They live inside us, and sometimes; they win.
I have always known that I whisper back.
Even if they win and change us, just as they must.
They are me and you, so we will never lose you know.
