Cognitive Dissonance Squared

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Cognitive Dissonance Squared

Each dragon entwines it's opposite
Each squeezing the other tight

They balance one another
They strive one with the other

One seeks to destroy the divergent
One feeds the divergent

Red dragon sees light and passion
Blue dragon sees darkness and defeat

The red dragon writes of joy and ecstasy
The blue dragon writes of sorrow and fear

Many times the red dragon feels desire and spits flames
Many times the blue dragon feels the pain and spits flames

They fight a deadly war between themselves
However both must forever prevail

"The red dragon writes of joy and ecstasy

The above lines are very cool. Most of us must live with conflict. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I do love the different ways you play with opposing forces that need each other, complementary; even if in appearance, they are polarized and seem to be enemies. The nice paradoxes at the end- it's a deadly war but both must forever prevail- not a fight to the death as it would seem, where one wins. How can both prevail? Forever? I like the paradoxes here that challenge us to hold and honor both sides equally. Though of course, my mind will never grasp it. That's okay, my heart can. Good work!

This is definitely true. The emotions these dragons represent are so prevalent to life. Without the bad, there is no good and visa versa. It seems most poets on this site have both happy poems and sad poems because we all have those happy moments and sad moments. I really like the way you present them, and the picture is great for this. The one grammatical question I have is in the second to last stanza, is it supposed to be spites flames or spits flames?

The other question is rhetorical because I believe it is left unanswered intentionally, which dragon seeks to destroy the divergent, and which feeds it?
Very nicely done, it leaves me with a question to ponder which is always nice so thank you :D
