Little

Little

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Little

We talk and say little.

We sit and rest little.

We watch but see little.

We experience but feel little.

We think but learn little.

We live only to die a little.

We reach but touch little.

We search but find little.

We hope but get little.

We listen but hear little.

We find but understand little.

We die only to live a little.

We steal only to give a little.

We cry but care little.

We see the light but stumble through the darkness.

Author's Note

H.L. Cerveise
I know I am using the words, we, but and little a lot, and I know many people do not like that. However, it was what I was feeling at the time. They also added to the cadence I was building in this piece. I used the word cadence to describe this because as I wrote it, a musical tune was playing through my mind.

True that we have become a fast food society
Jumping to the end before ever commencing on any beginnings
Impatience is a trait of humanity
Killing light and beauty with our own hands

Quick fix

I guess it's important to remember to live in the moment as fully and completely as possible. I like the idea you were portraying here.

It hit me so hard I had to write it just like I felt it. I am glad you liked it.
You do use those words quite a lot, but in this case it adds to the poem, not detracts from it. I really enjoyed how you showed that people really value only very small and unimportant things. We could all enjoy life a whole lot better with the bigger plan in mind. Well done. =)

Thank you for understanding what I was trying to convey. That means a lot.
Hmm, I thought I had reviewed this before, I guess I got sidetracked when I first read it. First, I would like to point out that you use "but" in this poem many times.. tsk tsk ;) I really like this poem though, it's the trap we all fall into at times. It's the reason I don't like small talk, it is pointless and gets people nowhere yet it feels like small talk, small actions, and small feelings are all the world know. We live such shallow lives and thus we die shallowly. You capture that message perfectly here in an amazing poem

LOL, believe I did try. Yes our writings are our offspring.
the repetition really works here...

adds to the rhythm and the idea that things never change...we go through motions, but what do we really feel?

like the Sounds of Silence..."talking without speaking, hearing without listening"

the language may be simple...in its own right...but all put together, this poem speaks volumes about what we are missing in life.

"We live only to die a little."
