DOWN THIS LONELY ROAD

Loss of faith, trust, love - everything that keeps us together....but we're not really alone on this road...

As I travel down this lonely road

I read the signs along the way

And I realise how much I've lost

And see the price I've come to pay

 

As I've travelled down this lonely road

I've watched my dreams all drift to dust

I've seen the sun set on my hopes

I've lost my faith and lost my trust

 

Down this lonely road

Where the crossings all tell lies

You can look out for the sun

Yet never see it rise

Down this lonely road

Where the signposts are all gone

We walk beneath a darkened sky:

Lost, and all alone.

This feels very familiar. I have often been to this place. A tired defeated feeling when looking back through the places life has taken me, the roads I never intended to take and the injury and outcome that the journey has carved. Life experiences change all of us whether we mean to let them or not. Sometimes it is harder than other times to pick yourself up and dust yourself off than others. Anyway I ramble on, but what that really means is your poem reached me. Somehow we go on, even when the hope and faith and love and clarity have left us. Thank you for sharing this.
