The Silent Legacy

The Silent Legacy

A Poem by child of God
"

Follow up of human first

"
The echoes of "be strong" have finally faded,
Replaced by a voice that whispers, "Be still."
I am no longer a vessel for your judgment,
Or a soldier broken by your will.
I am learning the language of grace now,
Where a tear isn't a sign of defeat
It’s the water that clears out the vision
Of the person I’m meant to meet.
You gave me a name and a set of rules,
A heavy coat that never quite fit.
But my Heavenly Father gave me a spirit,
And the courage to finally quit
To quit performing for a love that has strings,
To stop apologizing for being human and real.
I am trading your iron-clad "strength"
For the power it takes to heal.
So I’ll walk the path you couldn’t follow,
With a heart that’s open and wide.
I am still a McElroy by blood,
But I am God’s child on the inside.

I could be a little rusty, as it's been a while since I last did this.
