Why Being Different Makes You UniqueA Story by BlueShadowWhy Being Different Makes You Unique Growing up in America means a lot of things. It means you usually have wealth, “things”, and you are able to live in a politically stable zone. America is famous for its freedom yet also its inequality which leads me to another point. Just because you are poor or not able to fit in with everyone else doesn’t mean you are inferior. It means that you are unique, special, one-of-a-kind. Being different means that you are not the exact same as others and that you are able to think on your own and not blindly follow the rest of the sheep like a zombie. Being different whether it be in terms of looks, income, or interests, makes you extraordinary. Being different is about accepting yourself as being one of a kind and that it is better to be yourself rather than following what others tell you to be. One of the key things about being yourself is that you love yourself and that you don’t follow what other people tell you to do all the time. Being yourself is a part of loving yourself and that it is important to stop and think about what it means to be you. Just because you are not attractive in the conventional sense or that you are not materialistic doesn’t make you a “bad” person. You are simply understanding that there are things deeper than wealth and superficial things like look, money, fame, and power. Being different makes you realize that character matters a lot, too. Your character is what gives you the moral standing ground upon which you build your beliefs on. Being unique allows us to question why we follow certain rules, procedures, or guidelines in the first place. Being unique lets us realize that not everything the media or our peers tell us to look, act, or do is correct. Sometimes it takes a little bit of thinking and determination to get to the root of the problem or situation. Being unique sets you apart from the rest of the pack. For example, if someone thinks you are stupid because of a lack of math ability, shrug it off and say to yourself, “I am intelligent in other ways.” Uniqueness is not necessarily always good, but most of the time it helps us understand why we exist and what purpose our lives have. So today I ask you to be yourself, not what others tell you to be. © 2020 BlueShadow |
