NeonA Story by BlueShadowAbout my pet fishNeon Coming home from school, I go to my room upstairs and plop onto the bed. I feel worn out from all the schoolwork I had to do at school, so I go onto the computer and play an hour of a game. After I did that, I go downstairs to see my dad in the living room. My dad is reading the newspaper on the couch and is immersed in the world of news. He looks up at me and says, “What is it?”. I reply, “Dad, I’ve been wanting to have a pet for a while. I want a pet fish." My dad replies, “I’ll see.” When my dad finishes reading the newspaper, he goes to the dining room and eats dinner. I go back upstairs to my room and sleep soundly for about ten hours. I wake up and see that it’s daylight and that it’s a brand new day to start. I go to school and hangout with my friends and play during recess time. When I play during recess time I feel happy because I don’t feel like I’m wasting my time. Once school ends, I go back home and see something shocking yet awesome. Inside a glass bowl, there is a fish! The fish was small with blue scales and two small fins. I feel so good that I have a pet now. I think my life is about to get more interesting. I grab the bowl with the fish inside and head on upstairs to my room where I place it on my computer desk. I see the fish and watch it swim intriguingly in the water occasionally licking the salt block in the bowl which is its food. Although the fish just swims around in the bowl, it’s mesmerizing how beautiful the fish is and how content it seems to be just swimming around being grateful to be alive. I am humbled by Neon’s gratitude for being able to exist and swim around enjoying its finite life. I name the fish “Neon” because it is brightly colored and is astoundingly vibrant in terms of its color. I love watching Neon because she is very good at swimming in the bowl. When I go to the pet supermarket, I find salt blocks and fish flakes to feed my fish. My fish is very content with very little but I still buy a mini castle for it to hide in. Neon is very adept at hiding in the bowl but is also very good at getting out and licking the salt block. My fish taught me that being grateful for living, breathing, and existing are some of the ways you can be content with your own life. My fish taught me many different things in life, such as being grateful and optimistic. My fish is small yet it knows how to live a life of great meaning. Neon was an excellent pet. Hopefully in the future, I will have another pet that is just as amazing. © 2021 BlueShadow |
