Grey CloudsA Story by BlueShadowGrey Clouds Jeff was eating potato chips on the sofa watching news when he heard the door bell ring. Startled, he went to the front door and opened the door. He saw a police officer telling him that his mother died in a car crash, and that it was an accident on the main street of the town he was living in. Jeff’s mom, Alice, was fond of driving to the mall and shopping there for clothes, food, and jewelry. Jeff lived alone with his mom in a large McMansion in Dust City, where he and his mom lived a relatively peaceful, stable, and happy life. Jeff enjoyed being home and watching TV, exercising on the treadmill, or eating. His mom enjoyed going to the mall, park, and movie theater. It was a good life for both of them. When he heard that his mom died, he immediately felt shocked, sad, and disturbed. He asked the police officer, “Can you take me to where she died, please? I don’t have a car.” The officer replied, “Of course!” So the officer and Jeff went to the car crash location and saw Jeff’s mom’s body in the ambulance. Jeff couldn’t control his emotions and started sobbing because he greatly missed his mom. Another police officer came out of the ambulance and said to Jeff, “Your mom’s been dead for an hour. I’m so sorry. God bless you.” Jeff just nodded and went back to his McMansion. It’s been about three years since Jeff saw his mom die in the car accident but the pain of his loss was still there. Jeff felt sad occasionally in his house and looked at a picture in a frame on the wall inside his McMansion. He saw his mom’s sincere smile and her golden necklace around her neck. It was sad for Jeff that he had to go through this and thought it wasn’t fair. Jeff attended church sometimes but described himself as atheist. Jeff though thought his mom made it to heaven and was with God and being happy there. His mom was quite important to Jeff because Jeff enjoyed her carefree yet sincere attitude towards life. It became night and Jeff went upstairs to sleep in his room. He slept soundly but dreamt of seeing his mom in Heaven where they were with God in a golden city. During the dream he dreamt of his mom and being with her and feeling her pleasant and humble embrace. Jeff thought his mom was happy, and he was too. When he woke up, it was during the middle of the night. Jeff went to the bathroom and checked his reflection and saw his hair quite messy and his clothes slightly untidy. He went back to bed and was amazed that he fell asleep so quickly, to wake up to another day, without the presence of his mom. It was sad to think that there would be no more days of being with his mom. Jeff lived on and led a saddened life. © 2021 BlueShadow |
