Manny Skayton Breaks an Ankle

Manny Skayton Breaks an Ankle

A Story by BlueShadow

Manny Skayton was your average sixteen-year-old boy. He loved being able to ride his skateboard, his bike, and his scooter. To him, these activities were extremely enjoyable and he often found excuses to tell his mom and dad why to skate or bike rather than doing the dishes or doing the laundry. He found house chores to be extremely boring and would much rather skate, bike, or ride his scooter.

It was a crystal clear Monday morning with the sky being light blue and not a single cloud was in the sky to obscure the sun’s presence. The air felt slightly chilly as it was early fall. The temperatures were starting to go down. It felt great.

During the morning, Manny went outside the house to skate. It was eight in the morning and Manny skated and skated until his legs felt worn out. Manny loved skating because it made him healthier, more stylish, and popular in school. He skated for hours upon hours because he believed that the more you practice the better you get at skating. Manny loved to skate because the feeling of the skateboard’s wheels rolling across the pavement made him feel like he was driving a car. Skating was Manny’s favorite hobby and he hoped that one day he would be able to skate like a professional. His skating was admired by many in Eastlake, his house’s neighborhood.

When Manny skated one day, he fell down and got a broken ankle. He lay on the ground paralyzed with pain and didn’t know what to do. After about ten minutes, he got up and went to his house and asked his mom for medical help. His mom called the ambulance and two medical personnel arrived. They asked Manny where he hurt, how much he hurt, and if he wanted to go to the hospital. He went to the hospital where he entered the lobby. Inside the hospital were fifty people; young and old, white and black, rich and poor. They were here to get treated for their ailments and were waiting to see the doctor. Manny hated the hospital; he thought it was only for old people.

It was finally Manny’s turn to go to the doctor and the doctor examined him and put on an ankle cast. Manny felt much better about his physical state and went out of the hospital feeling much better. He felt so good and wonderfully stronger. He would be more careful about skating next time.
