A Drop of a Drop of a Drop

A Drop of a Drop of a Drop

A Story by BlueShadow

When something is extremely small in quantity, it is easy to forget the effect it can have when it comes into something that is pure, or more uniform in composition. A drop of ink, is enough to pollute a whole ocean of clean water and turn it into something abnormal. A drop of ink is a pollutant that can make something clean and pure very dirty by staining it. I always find it amusing that it is easier to go down a mountain than it is to go up one. Going up is very difficult while going down is very simple. Likewise, it is very difficult to create a story than it is to ruin it with a small grammatical error, word choice problem, or punctuation mismatch. Making something is more difficult than destroying it, and creating is harder than ruining something. I used the drop analogy to illustrate a point I was trying to make. One mistake or blemish is more obvious on a fine canvas than ten. A drop of a drop of a drop of ink can ruin the purity of a whole ocean of pure water.

One adage, that it is easier to lose than to win, is something that we as humans have trouble understanding. Mathematically speaking, losing and winning are the same, just different in direction, while philosophically speaking winning and losing are different not only in direction but also in “quantity” as well. That is, winning is not only different from losing, it is more difficult. Symmetry is beautiful but truth is more beautiful. One thing I learned from my life is that just because one and one equals two doesn’t make it the same. That is, one plus one is equivalent to two but not the same. Science says that energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed, which is a very symmetrical thing to say. Science and math treat creation and destruction as if they were the same. In philosophy, however, it is more difficult to create something than to destroy it. That is why it is vital that we understand that symmetry is not realistic. Our lives are not ruled by symmetry but by truth. Symmetry is aesthetically pleasing but truth is even more beautiful. Like a drop can ruin an ocean, going up is harder than going down, and creating is more difficult than destroying. Symmetry makes us oblivious to the real nature of things, and if we spend too much time revolving our lives over an aesthetic ideal rather than a truth, we might end up in a bad place. So let’s learn to pursue truth, not aesthetics.

Nothing is either created or destroyed, only transformed. Everything is co-created and destruction is a small act. Even destruction is a form of creation, creating destruction. It is infinitely easier to create as all life is already created. Now try to destroy all life, that is an impossible task. People only think they destroy. A drop of ink on canvas can be a blemish to one, but to another, it only accentuates the beauty of the rest of the canvas, adding its own flavor. Even ugly actions destroy nothing, only the one committing them. Nature destroys but is not ugly as there is no difference in destruction or creation to it. And that is why it is able to create so beautifully.
