Manny Skayton Plants Some Beans

Growing up, Manny Skayton thought biology class was interesting. In it, he got to read about animals, classification, the scientific method, human anatomy, and scientific procedures. He found biology to be so intriguing because of its usefulness, easiness, and beauty. He thought it was beautiful that the cell, the basic unit of life, was so intricate, complex, and delicate. He thought it was very amazing that cells are so small yet so important, so complicated yet simple in purpose, and useful yet replaceable. Biology was one of Manny’s favorite subjects. He absolutely loved learning more science, and becoming better at it, day by day by day. He wanted to learn more biology at home, if he just had the resources, he thought. 

Manny learned from his biology teacher, Mr. Salwaik, that they were going to have to show something for the school science fair soon. Manny wasn’t sure what he was going to do for the science fair, as presentations and interacting with strangers was difficult for him. Manny after some thought knew what he was going to do with his presentation. He was going to present a bean sprout that took many weeks to make. It was going to be interesting, yet amusing. He couldn’t wait to go home to get started. 

From Storica, Reading’s local grocery chain, Manny purchased a five dollar bag of bean sprout seeds that would grow and grow until they couldn’t grow anymore. Manny Skayton looked at the small, white bag of bean seeds and was stunned by how adorable they looked. They were small, soft, and numerous. It was going to take lots of patience and determination to cultivate these seeds into something valuable. 

Manny got a small vase and filled it with dirt, put the seeds in them and watered them every day. He did this for a week and was stunned by how the seeds grew and grew until they sprouted, showing off their small and white stubs and beginnings of a new plant. Manny was so pleased with his three week long project, which had turned out great. Manny got up from his desk and stretched out his arms. The science fair was going to be his, he thought. Manny got his bean sprout and placed it in his bin. He couldn’t wait.

Manny went to the science fair in a suit. He was with his mom and couldn’t wait to have the spotlight. People were looking at the hundreds of senior science fair projects and were amazed by people’s ingenuity and intelligence. Manny’s project was titled “Growing Beans and Results” and had a display of what he did to cultivate such beautiful plants. Manny was amazed by how many people came to see and seem stunned at his project. Manny thought the science fair went well. He was so pleased with his efforts.
