Manny Skayton’s Parents Divorce

Manny Skayton’s Parents Divorce

A Story by BlueShadow

Manny Skayton lived in a medium-sized building in Reading, Indiana and was so proud of his job. He was a business firm project manager, and helped the firm grow in size and importance. Manny loved to work hard and he enjoyed the feeling of accomplishing a project in due time. Manny worked hard and for a long time. His work was being in a cubicle and typing stuff up on the computer’s word processor. Manny thought work was hard but he loved going there anyways. He enjoyed working because he earned money, made friends, and learned new things about business. He loved his job.

One day, as Manny arrived home from work and entered his apartment, he felt a sense of relief and happiness because he could finally relax on the couch and watch television while eating some potato chips. Home was comforting because of its private and solitary nature. Manny loved to be home and relax. It was especially nice after work. His apartment was moderately expensive, and had one bedroom, one bathroom, and a kitchen, living room, and dining room. He loved being home. It was so soothing.

As Manny had come home from work, it was seven in the evening and it was time to watch soccer on television. Manny got on the blue sofa and got a bag of barbecue potato chips with soda and began to relax. As he relaxed, he heard the phone ring and was startled and worried by the timing. So, he got the phone and answered. He asked who the caller was and why he was calling. It turned out to be his dad. His dad explained to him that his dad and mom were divorcing because of personal issues and would probably end up separating within a month.

After hearing this, Manny was shocked, startled, then became saddened after a few hours. The news of his parents’ divorce had come at such an awful time, when the news was already bad. Manny wanted to know more but was too tired, so he fell asleep.

Once morning came, Manny got up from bed and went to his parents’ house in Reading where they lived in a big and spacious McMansion. His parents told Manny that they had just divorced because they thought they weren’t in love or even fond of each other anymore. Manny decided it was time to persuade them to stay together, since their divorce would sadden him greatly. Manny told them of how wonderful marriage was and how if they could resolve their issues there would be no more sadness any longer. He tried to convince them to stay together, but nothing worked. Manny just slumped on the recliner and sighed. He knew his parents were serious this time.

After a month had passed, Manny’s parents divorced and Manny himself was stunned by his parents‘ indifference towards his own emotions. Manny was so full of sorrow that the very people who had given birth to him had divorced. It was going to be a long fall. He loved his parents so much and to see them divorce in such a manner mad him feel ignored, violated, and left out. Manny remembered and cherished the memories he had of his parents with him when he was young, a teenager, and a young adult. His parents were an important part of his life and now they weren’t together any longer. It was a somber time for Manny, but he knew deep inside his life would recuperate and move on. It was just a matter of time.
