Manny Skayton Enters A Bike Competition

Manny Skayton Enters A Bike Competition

A Story by BlueShadow

It was the 67th Annual Reading Bike Competition, a competition where hundreds of residents would bike for ten miles and see who finishes first. It was an exciting competition because of its length, popularity, and award, a plaque. This competition was meant for a participant to showcase his biking skills and to display his biking prowess. It was a competition which drew the best bikers from Reading.
Reading was holding the competition again this May, and Manny was already reading about it in the newspaper and talking about it with his friends. Manny loved to bike and biking was one of his favorite things to do. Manny loved the feeling of the air whirling past, the bike’s wheels gliding on the ground, and the thrill one gets from going so fast. Reading was about to start the bike competition in a few days, so Manny got his entrance fee money and went to Reading Bike Center and paid sixty dollars. Once he did that, had he been faster, he would have had to pay less.
May 15th came and one hundred bikers were together at 1700 Lime Road, where they were about to start a race to 1500 Peachblue Boulevard, which would take about an hour. Manny was in the race and was clutching the bike’s handlebars tightly. The race’s organizer said “three...two...one...GO!”, and one hundred bikers raced off and began their trek towards the end. The adrenaline rush in Manny’s body propelled him forward for two miles. He was on fire metaphorically, and was determined to win. The bikers entered the last leg of the race, and Manny was almost at the end. He was in 3rd place, so if he could just overcome two bikers, he’d win. Manny biked as hard as he could, his legs were starting to wear out. Manny rode his bike to the end, and ended up getting 3rd place. He won 50 dollars and his name would be published in Reading’s newspaper, the Reading Herald.
Manny went home and read the news and saw his name in an article showcasing the event and prominently displaying the winners. Manny was so pleased and honored to see his name on the front page of the paper. Although he didn’t get first place, he was still pleased with himself and was proud of himself for even attempting to win. Manny was so content with his biking ability. He was ecstatic.
