The Beautiful Cave

The Beautiful Cave

A Story by BlueShadow

Harrison Leonards and John Affy were two of the best friends you could ever have. They were both honest, understanding, and forgiving people. Their parents loved the outdoors and were your typical American denizens. Harrison was outgoing, upbeat, optimistic, and confident, while John was more quiet, timid, shy, and careful. Their personalities complemented each other perfectly, and together they formed a wonderful, beautiful, and deep friendship. They had known each other since they were in grade school through telephone and were now in their thirties. Harrison and John were great friends who knew a lot about each other, and often made fun of each other just for laughs. Harrison and John were great friends, and loved having good times together. They loved each other as pals so much.

Harrison Leonards grew up in the 1940’s and was born in Westford, Pennsylvania, an idyllic town of about eight thousand people. There, he learned about what it means to toil the soil, as he had been a farm boy since he was born. His parents were Amy and Matthew Leonards, two old school Americans who had grown up in the 1800’s where there was little technology and more humanity, as they said. Amy and Matthew made sure that Harrison understand virtues very well and why they are important. Harrison was a very responsible, caring, and compassionate adult. Amy and Matthew were very proud of their son. To them, Harrison was exceptionally hardworking and humble.

John Affy was born in Williamsburg, Connecticut, and lived in a town of about twenty-thousand people, where he enjoyed the city life and loved the hustle and bustle of the town he lived in. In the town he was born and grew up in, people were busy and didn’t have the time to be polite to others. However, John loved the scene of the sun setting over the city’s beautiful and encompassing sunset, with its orange, red, and yellow colors draping over the city’s skyline. John loved Williamsburg and enjoyed the busy, fast-paced nature of the town. Williamsburg was extremely pretty and full of shops, restaurants, and stores. John knew what busy really meant. He was always learning something new that the city was doing.

John and Harrison were best friends in a new town that they both now lived in, called Allensville, Missouri. This town had around twenty-thousand people and was a medium-sized town with lots to do, see, and listen to. It was an artsy town, with many famous musicians, artists, writers, and other sorts of the creative variety. Allensville was beautiful, cozy, cheap, and fun. John and Harrison admired their new, adult town with great passion. They loved how Allensville was located next to Greensburg and Stockton, two other medium-sized towns. John and Harrison loved Allensville and all that it had to offer, which was a lot. John and Harrison were best friends who were both musicians and played for a local band known as “The Hooligans”. John and Harrison both were in this band and enjoyed playing saxophone and trumpet, respectively. Their playing was good and they loved “The Hooligans” and its festive, amazing, and wonderful, atmosphere. John and Harrison enjoyed being musicians. It was a fun, interesting, exciting, and fulfilling job. They loved working.

One day, when John was reading the newspaper, he read an article saying that there was a buffalo spotted near Allensville’s outskirts, and that it had found a cave which was unknown previously before. John decided he wanted to explore this cave, so he went outside and went to Harrison’s house to let him know, too. Both of them now trekked to Allensville’s borders which were made of grass, grass, and more grass. It was an endless plain of grass in every direction. Allensville was a medium-sized town, but it didn’t go on forever. The town’s borders were surrounded by plain.

John and Harrison found a ditch and were intrigued by its size, location, and nature. John inspected the ditch and found something remarkable. There was an entrance to a cave in the ditch. He saw the entrance and was amazed by its width and height. It was a large, black, hole that could lead to something else. John and Harrison went into the cave and were stunned by the cave’s total, complete, and utter silence. The cave had no people and was pitch black in terms of color. They shouted and it echoed for a minute. They were in total darkness.

John and Harrison were somewhat scared, intrigued, and amazed by the huge cave they were in. The ground they stepped on was slippery, uneven, and dangerous. They felt the sides of the cave with their bare hands. It seemed like it went on for miles and miles. They continued going on in the cave and inspected it. They saw stalagmites, stalactites, dripping water, and bats. It smelled earthy, like wet dirt, and was astonishing for its total darkness. They luckily brought a small flashlight so they could see, though. It was a huge and beautiful cave.

John and Harrison stumbled on something yellow, and they weren’t sure what it was. Was it urine? Was it some gemstone? They looked at it carefully and intriguingly and determined that it was a gemstone. They weren’t sure what it was, but it was made of something really valuable, rare, and beautiful. John and Harrison loved this new cave, and even better, it had valuable stone in it. John and Harrison found precious gemstone, and from that point on, they knew their lives would be changed forever. Allensville was in dire need of something else for its economy, so it could use an excavation site. John and Harrison felt humbled and extremely lucky.
