Smokewing

Smokewing

A Story by BlueShadow

Smokewing flew across the sky, his wings creating artificial wind. The moon hung in the night sky like a giant light bulb illuminating the whole world. The air was pleasant to breathe in and if you looked down you could see the whole city’s lights illuminate the ground. Smokewing snorted and he continued on flying and flying, until he finally reached the mountaintop. He landed with a loud thud and his rider, James Walton, got off his back and inspected the mushrooms on the mountaintop’s ground. The mushrooms were extraordinarily big, white, beautiful, and delicious looking. James inspected each mushroom until he found a very large one, one that was large enough for him to sell at a market. Smokewing was happy his rider found what he was looking for, and smiled gently at James. James also felt happy that he had found the most delicious and wonderful mushroom in all of Patonia. Smokewing was a large, black, and fearsome dragon James had found when Smokewing was a small baby. Smokewing understood that James was a kind, understanding, and loving owner who would do anything to make him happy. Smokewing grew until he was forty years old and James was fifty-five. Smokewing was fed a diet of small lizards, beetles, and coconut juice. Smokewing was a wonderfully kind, loving, and understanding dragon, and would practice his magic with great ferocity and focus. Smokewing’s wings were huge and when he flew they flapped and the air moved like crazy. Smokewing was a beautiful dragon inside and out, and loved making's owner and other people happy. He was an exceptionally smart and loving dragon.

Patonia was a huge continent surrounded by sea and was covered with mountains, hills, ponds, lakes, rivers, and small cities dotting the continent. Patonia was an extremely beautiful continent and had many different kinds of trees, fairies, mermaids, and flowers. Patonia was a continent known for its magical herbs and stews, and sorcerers would often come there to purchase an herb that they couldn’t find on their home continents. Patonia was extremely big and had at least twenty cities dotting its flat and arable land. Patonia was so named because it was so beautiful, mesmerizing, and picturesque, that everyone from all over wanted to see it, live on it, and be on it for a long time. Patonia was the land of magic, where wizards, sorcerers, and witches would engage in light and dark magic. Dragons abounded and elves and nymphs lived there, too. Patonia was wonderful for its beautiful and awe inspiring nature. It was extremely comforting to its residents how lucky they were to live on such an arable land. It was very comfortable and pleasant living in its largest town, Meducia. Meducia was the capital of Patonia and had many different libraries filled to the brim with books on magic. Magicians would often go there to read about different spells, enchantments, and chants to improve their magical abilities. Patonia was a great place for a young wizard to start his training, so he would become great later on. Patonia was wonderfully decorated with many kinds of trees, some of which bore herbs like dandykit and cannasense. Dandykit was a yellow powder used in some potions which could make you stronger physically for a few days. Dandykit was sold in numerous stalls across the continent and was a relatively common herb for magicians to use and understand. Cannasense was a brown powder used in many different potions to make someone more intelligent for a few weeks and was much more difficult to use. Cannasense was hard to use because it required patience, determination, and understanding of basic magic, something that many magicians lacked.

Books on magic and sorcery abounded in libraries in Patonia and were varied in subject matter because Patonians thought libraries were instrumental in the accumulation and storage of knowledge. Patonians were well known for their distrust of green magic, a form of magic which many magicians were against because of its use of obscure herbs. Cannasense was extremely important in many different spells because of its versatility, intrigue, and mysterious nature. Cannasense smelled like licorice and was an important herb because many different spells required it for performance. Patonia was a wonderfully beautiful and magical place full of sages and history. It was magical to live in such a beautiful and wonderful place.
