Hyacinth Edwards

Hyacinth Edwards

A Story by BlueShadow

Hyacinth Edwards was a six-year-old little girl who lived on her mom and dad’s sprawling, 30-acre, beautiful farm of crops of corn, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, beets, and radishes. Her dad drove the tractor over the crops to irrigate them and make them supplied with moisture. Hyacinth was a kind, loving, and sweet girl who loved to make her parents happy by playing with them, talking to them, or just resting in their arms. The farm itself was beautiful and amazingly well thought out, and the farm was extraordinarily big and intricate with many fields, a barn house, and a chicken coop. Her dad loved irrigating the crops and making them shine with water and also attended the cows, chicken, pigs, and mink. Her dad was very good at farming animals that needed lots and lots of attention and care. The cows would moo and dad would feed them grass and water, and then they would rest. The chicken ate lots of feed, and laid eggs for Hyacinth and her parents to eat. Sometimes, using the chickens’ eggs, Hyacinth and her parents would make omelettes, eggs and bacon, or hard boiled eggs. Chickens were a delight to raise and feed. Pigs would often be fed feed too and when the time was right, Hyacinth’s father would kill a pig and then there would be smoked ham, bacon, and pig feet for the long, cold winter. Hyacinth’s father was a vey hardworking, knowledgable, and understanding man. He loved making the farm run smoothly and was very understanding of Hyacinth’s needs. Using the money he got from the farm, he would buy dolls, dollhouses, and clothes for Hyacinth to wear. Hyacinth loved her toys and clothes and would often play with them when she could. Hyacinth would often take stools alongside the fields of corn, cabbage, and carrots, and would love to breathe in the cool, morning air and breathe out the fresh, evening breeze. Hyacinth would also look up at the sky and be amazed at how beautiful the sky was and was stunned by the sky’s brilliant blue color and the wisps of cotton candy cloud that dotted the sky every now and then. Hyacinth loved to take long walks to calm down her nerves and make her life better. She loved her parents’ 30-acre farm so much. It was the biggest farm in Satellite, Missouri. The farm produced lots of food every day and most of it was delivered to stores and groceries in Satellite so that Satellite residents could buy food and eat it while Hyacinth’s parents earned thousands of dollars. Hyacinth’s parents’ farm was named Oak Ridge Farm and was located on I-20 at exit 102. Hyacinth’s parents were very hardworking people and Hyacinth’s mother made quilts and clothes by knitting them together with yarn and a knitting needle. Hyacinth loved to watch her mom deftly weave together the clothes using a mathematical, robotic, and repetitive movement. Hyacinth was extremely kind and understanding and loved to make other people feel good about themselves by helping out on the farm. Hycainth’s mom loved going to Satellite’s grocery store and loved buying fruits, vegetables, food, and yarn for her knitting. Satellite was an extremely good town if you wanted to get something good to eat or buy some beautifully colored yarn to weave clothes. Hyacinth’s mom went to Market Satellite and bought tomatoes, celery, lamb, and mutton, food that her farm couldn’t grow. Hyacinth was very loving towards her mom and would eagerly scour the grocery bags for the yarn to feel it and squeeze it. Hyacinth was amazedly her mom’s ability to make such beautiful cloth so well and so perfectly. Hyacinth was very good at making her mom show her how she knitted such pretty clothes so well and so quickly. Hyacinth loved being on her farm watching stray dogs or cats eat some of the corn they grew. Hyacinth knew there were often animals prowling about eating and drinking water. Hyacinth’s parents’ farm had a fountain from which they obtained their water and would love drinking the water as part of their morning, evening, and night routing. Hyacinth loved her farm so much and the pretty layout of its design. Her dad loved to tend the farm and feed the animals, so overall Hyacinth loved watching her dad do this. Hyacinth loved watching her mom go to downtown Satellite and buy yarn, veggies, fruit, meat, and toys. Occasionally, Hyacinth’s mother would buy her a top, stuffed animal, or book, which would make Hyacinth grin with joy. Hyacinth loved buying food and toys with her mom in Satellite, and sometimes would wonder what city life was like. She wondered if there were lots of people, stores, and restaurants, and was often stunned by the city’s wonderful and amazing atmosphere of. hope and happiness. Hyacinth was very kind to the city people she met and would often tell them the story of her farm. She would say, “My grandfather started Oak Ridge Farm as a project to grow food that was fresh and organic for Satellite residents to eat. Satellite had mostly GMO food, so my grandpa started Oak Ridge so that more people would eat healthier foods.” Hyacinth enthralled listeners with her pleasant voice, evenness of tone, and interesting story. Hyacinth thought that the relationship between Satellite and Oak Ridge Farm was like a baby and his mother. The baby (Satellite, Iowa) would need Oak Ridge Farm (the mother) for guidance, protection, and love. Hyacinth loved being on the farm and watching the sun go from east to west. Hyacinth was very patient, considerate, and kind, qualities which made her parents extremely proud of her. Hyacinth loved Oak Ridge Farm and how pleasant, peaceful, and beautiful it was. The windmill spun in the wind and was so mesmerizing to look at due to its geometrically perfect design and tall stature. The windmill was extraordinarily beautiful and had lots of things about it that made it stand out in the farm. Hyacinth loved being a little girl in her parents’ farm and exploring the farm every day. There was always something new to see, she thought.

Hyacinth started attending middle school in Satellite and walked to and from the farm each day. Burrough Middle School was a middle school designed to have clean classrooms, hallways, and drinking water. Hyacinth was at first nervous to attend Burrough Middle School but was pacified by the kindness and love of strangers at the school. Burrough Middle School was extremely well equipped and had lots of cool things to see, hear, and do. Hyacinth’s homeroom teacher, Ms. Galloway, was a bit strict, but Hyacinth loved to make her feel happy by bringing in the occasional fresh corn, lettuce, and chicken pot pie from the farm. Hyacinth’s mom’s chicken pot pie was super tasty, with a perfectly light brown crust and a filling of cream, carrots, peas, and chicken that could make anyone’s lips waver with delight. Hyacinth’s mom’s chicken pot pie was extremely good, and Ms. Galloway would devour every last morsel of the pot pie. Hyacinth was very into playing tennis when she was young and would love playing for the tennis team at her middle school. Hyacinth was very hardworking and practiced every Tuesday and Thursday to perfect her tennis game skills. She had a matchup coming next month and it would only be a matter of time before she had a match again. Practice was everything in tennis, just like everything else. She got to the tournament as next month came and faced Anna Edericks, the current tennis champion. They played for about thirty minutes when Hyacinth finally beat Anna and won the game. Hyacinth felt so good about her tennis results and went home with a huge smile. She felt like a million dollars, and was so excited to present the news to her parents. They shared her joy, and soon they felt compelled to go to Satellite’s most fancy restaurant, Shells, for a big celebration. Hyacinth and her family partied for the whole night with wine bottles, oysters, fries, and cake. It was one extremely good day, they thought to themselves.
