Angie's ChildA Story by BlueShadowAngie Marilyn had just finished making breakfast for her son, Rodrick. Rodrick was a very smart, understanding, and healthy 15-year-old boy who knew the ins and outs of model rocketry. Rodrick loved making model rockets because he thought they were very interesting, cool, and thrilling. Rodrick loved making model rockets because he also wanted to impress his friends, Bob and Harvey. Angie put a plate of bacon and eggs on the table and waited for Rodrick to start eating. Rodrick felt dizzy at the breakfast table and waited for his mom to come back into the breakfast room. His mom looked a bit concerned and said, “Rodrick, is there something wrong? Didn’t get enough sleep last night?” Rodrick simply looked at the bacon and eggs and felt queasy. Something in his health wasn’t right. He had been feeling dizzy and getting headaches all week. His mom and Rodrick went to Ashbury Hospital where they went to see his doctor and were waiting for a diagnosis after the meeting. After the diagnosis, Rodrick felt shocked. There was a brain tumor in the left side of his brain that was causing him to have migraines and stomach pain. He knew that his mom and him were in for a long journey of pain. His mom and Rodrick were both very concerned about what might happen to him and what might go on if things were left untreated. Both of them felt very uneasy. ` Rodrick went to school on a Monday morning and rode the bus to Ashbury High School where he was a sophomore and was enjoying the journey to and back from school and home. Rodrick loved going on the bus because he slept on it and waited for school to start. Rodrick thought school was extremely difficult, but loved English class the most anyways and thought math was quite boring. Rodrick and his mom were very close because Angie’s husband had died a few years ago in a car crash in 2009. The car crash devastated Angie and Rodrick because they relied on Tim, Angie’s husband, for money. Angie and rRodrick thought their lives would become better if Angie worked as a cashier in the local supermarket where she could just toil and earn money that Angie and Rodrick both needed. Angie and Rodrick loved each other as family and lived in a trailer in a trailer park known as The Meadows. The trailer park had one hundred trailers each occupied by Ashbury’s poorest families. The class was taught by Mr. Williams, and was extremely well-taught because of Mr. Williams’s love of reading and literature. English class was where Mr. Williams could teach his students all about poetry, reading, writing, and literary analysis. Mr. Williams was very kind to his students and didn’t grade too harshly. He loved teaching and thought Rodrick was one of his favorite students. Eventually, more and more people came into Rodrick’s English class where they started to learn about many different stories, ranging from the 1500’s to the present day. During English class, Rodrick learned a lot about different authors like Charles Wilmington, Dana Cleburn, and Ross Ressington. Rodrick loved to learn about all these different authors because he wanted to read their writings later on at home where he could learn all about the different works they made. Rodrick thought his life was extremely blessed and loved going to English class learning about so many poems and books that made him enthralled. Rodrick loved learning about history and the many different kings and queens who ruled Ashbury in the past. Rodrick went home that Monday and told his mom all about the different things he had learned from Mr. Williams including plot, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and vocabulary. Rodrick loved learning about the different people and places that his readings often took him too. He learned a lot from the teacher as well and thought his teaching style made things effective and wonderful. Rodrick loved English class because he could learn a lot about different authors, poems, stories, essays, and books. Angie was reading the paper and looked up and said, “How was school? Did you like school? Was English class good?” Rodrick replied that school had been extremely fun and that he had learned a lot and thought reading poetry was very enjoyable. His mom replied, “Great! I hope you learned a lot and liked it!” Rodrick went to his bedroom in the trailer and replied that for him at least life was very good. Rodrick sat down on his desk and started drawing. Angie loved her job as a cook in a local restaurant nearby and thought her job paid enough. Angie and Rodrick loved each other because they loved each other as family. They both felt quiet lonely in Ashbury’s city limits and thought their lives were just okay. Angie and Rodrick were a great pair and complemented each other beautifully as friends.
