Self-Control

Self-control is being able to control what you see, hear, do, and feel and to control your passions, wants, and desires. Controlling what you see so that you don’t get addicted or overwhelmed is an extremely important thing to me because with that self-control you are able to lead a pure life. Controlling what you hear, do, and feel is very important in life because it allows you to understand that life is not just about acting like an animal relying upon instincts but maintaining composure and having a love for life and loving others.

Your passions are what you love to do even if what you love to do isn’t necessarily morally correct. Your wants are the things you want like money, power, and status and are things that a normal person can control. Your desires are the things that you wish you could have or be but can’t. Desires are perfectly normal to have and are a normal part of human nature. Being able to control your selfishness is a huge step in the right direction towards achieving self-composure.

I believe that self-control is extremely important to have because being able to control what you say, want, or feel is an extremely valuable tool in a person’s life toolbox. I think that being self-controlled means that you are a sensible and morally conscious person. Being self-controlled means that you think that life should be in moderation and not at extremes. Self-control is a virtue that should be desired because it helps you balance out your life.

Self-control lets you inhibit your wants and desires and lets you focus on more important things. If you feel like you are addicted to cigarettes, maybe you should seek help. If you feel like you are addicted to computer games, you might also need help. Self-control helps everyone gain a control over their lives and lets people understand that help is perfectly fine in times of turbulence. Self-control is a virtue I cherish because of its ability to help me focus on big and important things in life.
