Ashes

Ashes

A Poem by BlueShadow

The fireplace has three logs

Burning, crackling, and emitting smoke

Embers occasionally fly from the logs

Warming our hands and feet

An hour passes and all that remain are ashes

Black, powdery, and carbon

The ashes are all that remains

The remnants of a burning fire

We leave and go to our rooms

Snuggling right in bed

Sleeping for a new day

And another trio of logs to burn
