The Atom

The smallest unit of matter in modern chemistry is the atom. An atom can only be seen by an electron microscope and is extraordinarily difficult to study. The atom is a marvel of scientific research and is wonderful for its applications in human life. Atoms are the smallest unit of matter and are considered the building blocks of compounds like water, carbon dioxide, and other chemicals. Atoms are intriguing for their radically different nature from other types of matter which are visible and able to be seen. I like studying chemistry because it gives a footnote into what I believe is the true nature of the reality of the microscopic world.
