Do Souls Exist?

The concept of the soul has been deemed as "primitive" and "unscientific" by many academics. People think nowadays that the only thing real about a person's identity is their body. I believe, however, that souls are real, even though they don't take up space, matter, time, or energy. Souls are immaterial which means they transcend the physical world and are eternal. I believe souls exist because they make sense to me in a way that makes modern day religions sound. Souls are interesting to me because even though they aren't physical they can affect the physical world in a direct and meaningful way. I am very much interested in souls because of their transcendent properties.
